Knee Deep Wines, Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon 2013

If you have to choose a partner for Sauvignon Blanc....Semillon is a wonderful fit. The French worked it out ages ago and got it right with white Bordeaux. The hgih natural acidity and lemon tang from Semillon makes a good foil for the grassy, soft tropical Sauvignon Blanc. And so we have here an Australian interpretation of Bordeaux Blanc, which consistently kicks goals when coming from Margaret River.  Ever wondered why "Bordeaux" wines do so well in Margaret River? Just do a quick visual comparison of the two areas and their'll soon work it out.

This blend is 67% Sauv Blanc and 33% Semillon.

White Stonefruit skin, nettles, almonds, rich lemon, a little stinky yoghurt funk. Not your average SB/S blend. The palate brings Semillon's lemony zest to balance Sauv Blanc's soft gooseberry, along with a sweet freshness and a lingering lemon curd. The blend is right, the grassy notes are present and those drinkers who like those components will be happy, but the interest lies in just the right amount of Sem to give natural spine. A sum of its parts: This wine may as well be one grape type.*

* That's an in-joke for anyone who has ever served wine in a retail environment....
