Knee Deep Wines, Shiraz 2011

Shiraz and Margaret River. Not usually the pairing that comes to mind, but when it is on song, it can work well. Bob Cartwright has crafted an opaque beastie here indeed.

Ink, tar, formic acid (crushed ants), minty/eucalypt (Margaret River staple). There's some coconutty oak work too along with plums and a touch of peppery spice. Mocha/coffee oak work frames sweet dark plums and sandy tannins. There's a savoury elegance here that begs further consideration of a 2nd glass.  Finishes with more of the stemmy spice and pepper.
