Gartelmann Wines [Hunter Valley NSW], Single Vineyard "Benjamin" Semillon 2018

Semillon, the iconic grape of the Hunter Valley region has traditionally been made in austere style needing many years of bottle ageing and development.
The current modern versions are more approchable at earlier stages.
Such is the case with this beautifully crafted 2018 Gartelmann "Benjamin" Semillon.
It ticks all the boxes of freshness, varietal characters and current enjoyability whilst promising cellaring reward.
It displays the undeniable acid backbone expected of the variety and vintage. It also delivers primary fruit in the citrus range with dry straw palate-feel and wafts of lime blossoms.
It has benefited from some oak contact and minimal winemaking interference
A very smooth sophisticated Hunter Valley Semillon which will reward mid-term cellaring but currently a good match to seafood dishes and some soups
