Hastwell & Lightfoot [McLaren Vale SA], Fat'n'Skinny Pinot Grigio [Fleurieu Hills] 2018

The Hastwell & Lightfoot team has released a trio of quirkily playful wines from their various WA vineyards.
The Fat'n'Skinny range is a result of their viticultural team's tribute to every toiling worker's sweat-drenched brow as well as to serious quaffers.
This F'n'S 2018 Pinot Grigio, from Fleurieu Hills is an anecdotal nod to vine trimmers and pickers, Fats Holla and Skinny Gervanti [??] as per the cartoonish label which evokes chuckles and pique interest.
But what about this 2018 Pinot Grigio??
Firstly, the above-mentioned cartoonish label amuses.
Then, the clear bottle allows the golden hue to resplend and attract the eye.
A whiff of straw is soon followed by aromas and flavours of pineapple and fennel fronds.
The flavours soon evolve from floral to citrus on breathing.
Crisply fresh acid backbone & mid-palate astringency provide a texturally supportive framework to the initial fruity freshness coupled with a smooth [13% Alc] glycerol slide
The initial up-front punchy bubble of varietal aromas and flavours soon flatten out, making this Hastwell & Lightfoot 'Fat'n'Skinny" 2018 Pinot Grigio a tingly mid-weight enjoyable cool climate Fleurieu Hills wine.
It is easily quaffable now but also tunes in to green salads and fresh seafoods
