Gartelmann Wines [Hunter Valley NSW], 'Wilhelm' Shiraz 2017

Jorg and Jan Gartelmann have released a pair of their Shiraz sourced from various areas and reflective of their meticulous selection of sites and growing conditions.
This Broke Fordwich [Hunter Valley] sourced 2017 Wilhelm Shiraz, named after Jorg's uncle, pours with an attractive cherry / mulberry hue with a clear meniscus and long legs
The initial nose of straw and mushroom is soon followed by wafts of red berries, almost in the cherry range
The palate delivers a warm mouthfeel of, again, red berries, pepper and mixed herbs.
The crisp acid and mouth-coating glycerol [14.1% Alc] inflect some residual sugar sweetness and palate length
It is a well-rounded, youthfully exhuberant HV Shiraz delivering warmth and punch now, but will also reward a few more years of bottle maturity
Price: $28
