Carillion Wines [Hunter Valley NSW], Origins Block 22 Cabernet Sauvignon [Wrattonbully SA] 2018

Although Carillion Wines, owned by the Davis family, is based in the Hunter Valley, it also owns vineyards in Orange [NSW] and Wrattonbully [SA]
This 2018 Origins Block 22 Cabernet Sauvignon displays territorial traits of Coonawarra, Padthaway and Limestone Coast where the vineyards share borders
This wine delivers an "Oomph" punch of fragrant varietal aromas and flavours from the initial opening of the bottle
It leaps out of the glass with a mouth-tingling embrace of blackberries / cherries, wafts of musk , cigar-box aromas, smooth but evident French oak tannins and slippery glycerol warmth
Even at this youthful and exhuberant stage, it shows roundness and coalescence
It's very Bordeaux-like in style but with typical muscular SA depth and savouriness
This is a very solid Cabernet Sauvignon of intensity, generous abundance of primary fruit and promises of cellaring reward
We enjoyed our examplar with a simple meal of grilled steak, mushrooms and potato mash
Price: $50
