Castle Rock Estate [Porongurup WA], Pinot Noir 2019

This 2019 Castle Rock Estate Pinot Noir from a challenging year and low yield, is one of a pair of reds released by winemaker Rob Diletti.
The whole bunch  barrel fermentation and long maceration in French barriques has resulted in a Pinot Noir of grunt and textural mouthfeel
Deep mulberry both in colour and initial fruit profile, it was somewhat slow to shake off the bottle funk.
On breathing, it unleashed a palate of intensity and depth displaying aromas and tastes of black cherry and mushroom straw. The maritime inflence of the vineyard site is reflected in the wine's savoury mineral intensity and depth
It is a good match to hearty protein dishes and will benefit from some bottle maturation
